The Roter Hahn elementary school was inaugurated on January 7, 1960 under the name Roter Hahn elementary school (410 students in 11 classes in 8 rooms). It has been a pure elementary school since 2014 with all-day courses in the Lübeck district of Kücknitz , which is classified as a social hotspot, in the district that gave it its name, Roter Hahn. In May 1969 the school had a maximum of 1,218 children. In the 2013/2014 school year, only 168 pupils were taught, 11 of them in the secondary school that was to be discontinued. From the 2014/2015 school year, the school is a pure elementary school.

The Roter Hahn elementary school grants the students so-called "free play phases", in which the children have been able to interrupt lessons since August 2013 and encourage learning through joint exercise and / or rest phases. There is also the opportunity to get involved in a school club that aims to promote movement, sport and play for children. As part of the care until 4 p.m. there is also the opportunity to take part in lunch together and to be accompanied with daily homework. This offer is provided by the “Vorwerker Diakonie” founded in 1906. The school organizes annual excursions in which all classes take part together.

The school is also a DaZ center. At the school there are 3 of the 17 DaZ classes in Lübeck as of 2016.

Cooperation with kindergarten

Since 2013, Lübeck kindergarten children have had the opportunity to attend primary school and get their first impressions of the school life ahead of them. The children are introduced to everyday school life in a playful way and involved in all essential processes. This makes it easier for the children to switch to everyday school life, so that the children can concentrate better on the lessons.

In the school program of the school it is stipulated that the lessons are extended several times per class per month in the Lübeck historical experience area, which is easily accessible for the children on foot . There the children have a strong contact with nature, animals and history.

In addition, the school offers the students the opportunity to spend the afternoon together.

As part of the cooperation, sheep are brought onto the school premises twice a week.

anthem

A school anthem was composed by Wolfram Eicke in 2015. The children learn and internalize these, which also promotes the feeling of togetherness among the students.

English class

From the 2014 school year, the foreign language English will be taught in one class per train from the first school year. This takes place integrated in the usual subjects such as mathematics, German and Heimat-, Welt- und Sachkunde (HWSU). Since 2015, English lessons have been firmly anchored in the school program and curriculum from at least one class per year.
