The primary school Am Mirker Bach is a municipal primary school in Wuppertal . The main building was placed under monument protection in 1993.
Building and yard
The main building dates from 1888. It is a two-story brick building with a clinker brick facade and a mansard roof . On each side of the building there is a central projection , the edges and corners of which are emphasized by pilaster strips made of yellow clinker bricks. The base of the building consists of ashlar masonry . Under the eaves of the pilasters with a round arch are fries interconnected. Between the basement and the first floor there is a continuous cornice with a serrated frieze.
The building is a Wilhelminian school building, which is typical of the brick construction of this time. For this reason and because of the integration in the late nineteenth residential area schoolhouse was an important witness to the Catholic school building construction on 14 October 1993 as a monument under protection.
Later a new building followed in the courtyard as well as a shed in which play equipment is stored. Behind the yard there is a playground and the toilets for the students .
history
The building was built in 1888 for the Catholic elementary school. In 1900 the school became an all-girls school, and from then on the boys attended a new school on Wiesenstrasse. In 1924 and 1925 the school building was largely renovated.
In 1939 the school became a German Community School , with which boys and girls were taught together again.
In 1953 the school was equipped with central heating and has been a municipal primary school since 1969.
school
Since 2003 the school has had a Montessori class in which the children are taught together from the first to the fourth grade. The other classes are also of mixed ages; however, initially only two years were taught together there. In the meantime, all classes from first to fourth grade are mixed. There has also been a side entry class since 2015.
