Grupa Azoty ATT Polymers GmbH ( short name: Grupa Azoty ATT POLYMERS ) is a chemical company based in Guben that produces polyamide 6 . Currently it belongs to Grupa Azoty , a Polish manufacturer of fertilizers, construction materials and caprolactam .
history
In 1958 the government of the German Democratic Republic decided to increase the national production of synthetic fibers. The main element of this plan was the construction of a chemical combine in Guben. In 1960 the foundation stone was laid for the VEB Chemiefaserwerk Guben , which was built on the site of a former ammunition factory of the armaments works Rheinmetall -Borsig. Trial operations began in 1964. In 1968, the production of polyamide 6, which was used to manufacture carpet yarn, began in Guben. In 1979 and 1980 the production possibilities in the PA6 area were expanded.
After the reunification , the plants operated under the name Chemiefaserwerk Guben GmbH. Due to numerous changes of ownership, the company Plastomid Polymers GmbH was established in 1998, specializing in the production of polyamide 6 (20,000,000 annually). Two years later, the polymerization reactors were modernized by converting them to two-stage production. In addition to the development of new types of high-viscosity granulate, this made it possible to enter the film market.
In 2005 the company changed the name to Unylon Polymers GmbH and increased the production capacity to 47 thousand tons of PA6 annually. Due to the financial crisis, it was not possible to maintain the profitability of the production and in 2009 the bankruptcy proceedings were opened over the company. In the course of this, the search for an investor who would take over Unylon Polymers GmbH began. In 2010 the plants were taken over 100% by Zakłady Azotowe in Tarnów-Mościce SA. Due to the consolidation of the largest Polish chemical companies, the company has been called Grupa Azoty ATT Polymers GmbH since 2013.
Production and research
Grupa Azoty ATT Polymers GmbH specializes mainly in the production of polyamide 6. Thanks to its high viscosity, it is sometimes used. a. used to manufacture biaxially oriented film that is used when working with food. The product Alphalon was awarded at the PLASTPOL 2011 trade fair in Kielce .
The manufacturing capabilities of Grupa Azoty ATT POLYMERS are estimated at 45 thousand tons per year. In 2014, Grupa Azoty opened another polyamide 6 factory in Tarnów as part of the special Cracow economic zone with a capacity of 80 thousand tons per year, so that the company can produce around 170 thousand tons of PA6 annually through synergy effects.
The company has its own laboratory and works with a laboratory of Grupa Azoty based in Tarnów . Its activities focus on both the further development of existing products and research into the development of new products.
Managing directors
The company is headed by the two directors Gabriele Kell and Jacek Dychtoń, the board of directors consists of Andrzej Skolmowski, Małgorzata Malec and Witold Szczypiński.
