Grupo Montparnasse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grupo Montparnasse was an avant-garde association of Chilean painters and sculptors.

The Grupo Montparnasse was founded in 1923 by Luis Vargas Rosas and Camilo Mori in Santiago de Chile . The two had met in Montparnasse ( Paris ), where they had both taken part in the annual exhibition of the Salon d'Automne in 1920 . Along with other artists from Chile - and other countries in South America - they studied classical painting and sculpture in France , but also dealt with Cubism and Post-Impressionism .

In the year of its founding in 1923, they were able to show an impressive retrospective in a controversially discussed exhibition in Santiago de Chile.
