The group Gutzeit emerged in 2005 from a loose formation around the Hamburg amateur musician Peter Gutzeit (* 1945).

The musical direction of the group can best be described as folk , country and protest songs . Almost without exception, the songs in the group were written by the songwriter Peter Gutzeit. The repertoire consists mainly of texts with content from the real world and working life, which is why the group is particularly happy to be engaged by the unions (especially IG Metall ).

history

In 2004, after a few smaller appearances, Peter Gutzeit ( vocals , guitar ) founded the group with Dieter Rentzsch (vocals, accordion ). Gutzeit brought musical experience with him that he had gathered about 30 years earlier with the band Peter, Paul & Barmbek , which in the years around 1975 had stood in a row with Franz Josef Degenhardt , Hannes Wader and other artists and groups.

A short time later, the musician Wolfgang Helbsing ( drums ) and the musician Maria Rothfuchs ( bass ) joined the group. Country guitarist Thomas Preus and drummer Stephan Böhme also played as guest musicians.

In 2007 the group Gutzeit released their first CD called Ein Schrei geht durch das Land . It also contained the song Sabine by Lidl , the text of which describes the everyday work of a cashier at the discounter of the same name. Another CD with the title Wat mut, dat mut was completed in 2010.

In 2010 the line-up consisted of Gutzeit and Rentzsch, who also often work as a duo, of the musicians Peter Horn ( electric guitar ) and Matthias Gerhard ( bass tuba ). Rentzsch left the band in 2015.

Others

Peter Gutzeit has been a member of the Eimsbüttel district assembly for the Left since 2014 . He was able to defend his mandate in the 2019 district assembly election.
