Guêpière (clothing)

The Guêpière (of French GUEPE "wasp") is a waist and hips encloses, corset-like bodice belt , which by the New Look Christian Dior promoted in the late 1940s narrow wasp waist brought forth. The Guêpière was developed in 1942 by the French fashion designer Marcel Rochas .

It differs from the similarly built torselette by the pronounced hip bend, which was an essential feature of the silhouette typical of the New Look .
