Guaguas Municipales SA is the transport company in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria that operates the city bus routes.

history

The history of local public transport in Las Palmas began with the opening of the first steam tram - El tranvía al Puerto - in October 1890. As a supplement to this, city buses were already running from the late 1920s / early 1930s, but at that time without fixed stops . With the founding of the Gremio Patronal de Jardineras Guaguas in 1929, the organization emerged from which the current operating company Guaguas Municipales was to emerge in 1986 .

By the time the tram was discontinued in 1937, the bus company's fleet had grown to 155 vehicles. Initially, the buses only ran between the city center and the port; later the regular service was extended to other parts of the city. In 2011, the company said it had 230 vehicles that served around 800 stops.

The company generated a surplus of around 2.25 million euros in 2018.
