The Guangzhou Evergrande Football Stadium is a football stadium under construction in the Panyu District of the Chinese city of Guangzhou , Guangdong Province . It will be the new home ground of the Guangzhou Evergrande Football Club .

history

Construction began in April 2020 and completion is expected in 2022. With a capacity of 100,000 people, when it is completed it will be the largest football stadium in the world and one of the first football-specific stadiums in the People's Republic of China. With a construction area of 300,000 , the stadium could be the largest in terms of area that has ever existed. The new home of Guangzhou Evergrande is part of a construction program that will include a number of large football stadiums in the country. The cost of completion was estimated at 1.57 billion euros at the start of construction .

The stadium's original design was based on a lotus flower and came from the Gensler architectural office. At the beginning of July 2020, a modified draft was published by Gensler. The new, somewhat simpler, design is more angular and is not as colorful as the flower. It is reminiscent of a diamond to honor Panyu's importance in the global jewelry industry. Perforated aluminum for ventilation, ETFE film for daylight access and photovoltaic glass for generating clean energy are to be installed. The new shape also helps in collecting rainwater for internal stadium use. The CNY 12 billion building is scheduled to be handed over in December 2022.
