Guard Dog is an American animated short film directed by Bill Plympton in 2004.

action

A dog walks with his master in the park. The happy running is interrupted when the dog sees a girl with a skipping rope . He imagines his master jumping with the rope and cutting off his head, and barks at the girl. A squirrel is barked because the dog sees it as a potential killer of its master and a bird's nest becomes a possible, deadly projectile, causing the bird to flee. A grasshopper digs its way into the dog's head in the dog's imagination, a mole digs a pit in which he places a bull in order to kill the master disguised as Ronald McDonald . A butterfly becomes a dangerous man chopper and a flower turns out to be a potentially fatal creeper.

The dog soon barks at everything and everyone, eagerly hurries back and forth and ends up strangling the owner with the dog leash. Finally the dog drags his lifeless owner home on a leash.

production

Guard Dog is based on hand-drawn characters and backgrounds that Plympton scanned and animated on the computer. All drawings were ready after two weeks.

The film contains the music pieces Underwater Terror by Hank Bones, Prom Queen by Maureen McElheron and Hank Bones and Home by Maureen McElheron.

Guard Dog got its first sequel in 2006 in the short animated film Guide Dog . The dog was also featured in Plympton's films Hot Dog (2008) and Horn Dog (2009). Plympton himself rated the dog as his "new Mickey Mouse ".
