history

In 1947 the company was taken over by William Davidson. 1970 is probably the most important year in the company's history, from then on Guardian was able to produce flat glass using the float glass process. Guardian opened its first factory for float glass production in Carleton, Michigan, in the same year and today the company has 28 float glass lines and 13 production sites worldwide.

From 1980 the company began to diversify its activities and further plants for the production of fiberglass insulation were opened. The European market entry took place in 1981 with the opening of the plant in Bascharage , Luxembourg . Further plants were created in Germany, Spain, England, Hungary and Poland.

In the 1990s, Guardian had an upswing in both building materials and the automotive sector with the acquisition of the Automotive Molding Company in Warren, Michigan; Lab. Radio in Valencia , Spain; Builder Marts of America (BMA) and Cameron Ashley Building Products (which is now Guardian Building Products distributor) in 2000. As the company progressed, the company also stepped up its research and development efforts with the opening of a Science & Technology Center ) in Carleton, Michigan. This will improve and expand the products of both the commercial and residential divisions, solar and electronics products and the automotive sector.

The takeover of Siegel-Robert Automotive in 2008 led to the creation of the subsidiary SRG Global, one of the world's largest providers of high-quality plastic coatings.
