developments
On September 21, 1929 SG applied for a patent in France for Sekurit safety glass. In the same year, toughened glass was manufactured using the Sekurit process ( toughened safety glass , ESG) in accordance with the requirements of the automotive industry . Sekurit safety glass for motor vehicles has been developed since the 1930s . From 1933, the production of ESG began at Saint-Gobain in Herzogenrath with a license to manufacture ESG in Germany.
On May 24, 1933, the production of tempered glass began. The brand name was introduced by Glaswerke Herzogenrath near Aachen in 1933 as the first toughened safety glass in the world. In 1936, the first convex and toughened glazing was developed. In 1952 the company took over the laminated safety glass manufacturer Kinon. In 1961, Südglas took over Klumpp & Arretz, which also produced laminated safety glass. Laminated safety glass for motor vehicles has been manufactured in the Stolberg plant since 1972. In 1975 the subsidiary VEGLA Tennavit brought car windows into which the radio antenna is integrated on the market. In 1977 VEGLA Germania was taken over. Saint-Gobain Sekurit Deutschland GmbH was spun off from VEGLA in 1994.
Products
- ClimaCoat pane: heating in winter and heat protection in summer
- CoolCoat lens: windshield technology with heat protection
- Layer heatable glass: heatable pane through an invisible metal coating
- Wire-heated glass: heated pane thanks to almost invisible wires
- Water-repellent glass: water-repellent glass surface thanks to a special polymer coating
- Laminated laminated safety glass: two panes of glass that are connected to one another by an intermediate plastic layer (increases safety in the event of an accident and reduces the risk of break-ins)
- Heat-reflecting glass: a silver oxide coating reflects the directly incident solar energy and reduces the heating of the interior.
- Heavily tinted glass, also known as privacy glazing: less heating of the interior and greater privacy
- Glazing for head-up displays (HUD): the Process2 press-bending process for the windshield enables car manufacturers to develop HUD systems
- Acoustic glass: reduces road and traffic noise as well as wind and engine noise
- Thin glass: thinner than conventional glass and therefore leads to weight reductions
- Complex shapes: panoramic roofs, panoramic windscreens
- Polycarbonate glazing and glossy panels for the automotive industry: weight savings; manufactured by the Sekurit subsidiary Freeglass
- Integrated antennas: supports the communication systems in the car, increases the reception quality
- Modular glazing: after lamination or tempering, the glass can be complemented with a plastic frame (three types of framing: overmolding, extrusion and pre-assembly)
