Niederkerschen ( Luxembourgish Nidderkäerjeng , French Bascharage ) is a former municipality and today's district of Käerjeng in Luxembourg.
history
Niederkerschen, which with the villages of Linger, Oberkerschen and Petingen belonged to the "Highness Kerschen", is first mentioned on April 4, 1281. At that time it received the «Liberty Letter according to Bohemian Law». Küntzig's independence may have taken place in 1260.
After the French came to power (1794–1815), the “Highness Kerschen” became the “Municipalité cantonale Bascharage” with the communities of Niederkerschen, Küntzig, Mamer, Garnich and Dippach. This resulted in the "Mairie de Bascharage" (community of Niederkerschen) with the villages of Niederkerschen, Oberkerschen and Linger. The first mayor was Pierre Clement in 1800; the first mayor of Küntzig was called Pierre Decker.
Even if Niederkerschen does not belong to the Minette region from a geological point of view, the local history is closely linked to that of the Luxembourg steel industry. The steel crisis in the 1970s caused many residents to lose their jobs.
Old church
Until 2011, Niederkerschen was an independent municipality with the villages of Niederkerschen, Oberkerschen, Linger, Bommert and Am Schack. On January 1, 2012, the communities of Niederkerschen and Küntzig merged to form Käerjeng.

The Korn , a tributary of the Meuse , flows through Niederkerschen.

Thirty years ago, an industrial zone with local and regional branches of large European companies such as General Motors , Luxguard and Delphi Automotive was established in Niederkerschen .
