Guerrilla Games is a Dutch developer of computer games based in Amsterdam . The studio has become known in particular for the successful Killzone series. With around 270 employees, the company is one of the largest European studios for computer games.

history

Guerilla Games was founded in 2000 under the name Lost Boys Games and emerged from the merger of three smaller, Dutch studios. Initially, the studio developed games for the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance . In 2003 the company was also briefly sold to the Dutch investor Media Republic and renamed Guerrilla Games. The company's first internationally successful title was Shellshock: Nam '67 , published in 2004 , which has sold over 900,000 times. In the same year, the game Killzone , which was only released for PlayStation 2 and was praised by the trade press, was released. It sold over two million times. In 2005, Guerrilla Games was finally sold to Sony Computer Entertainment (now Sony Interactive Entertainment ). Since then, the studio has been a first-party developer for Sony .

Since its takeover by Sony in 2006, Guerrilla Games has released Killzone: Liberation for the PlayStation Portable , Killzone 2 for the PlayStation 3 was released in February 2009 and Killzone 3 , also for PS3, was released in February 2011. Guerrilla Games succeeded in doing so To build on the success of the first part, Killzone 3 sold around two million times in the USA alone. In 2017, Guerilla Games had an even bigger success with the title Horizon Zero Dawn , which had sold more than 7.6 million copies as of February 2018.
