Guido Diamantino Soares
Guido Diamantino Soares was an East Timorese politician and freedom fighter.
During the Portuguese colonial era, Soares was a lieutenant in the Portuguese army and received military training in Portugal.
Soares was a member of the central committee of FRETILIN , which proclaimed the independence of East Timor on November 28, 1975 . In the government cabinet he was appointed, alongside Hermenegildo Alves , as deputy deputy minister for defense and also sub-chief of the general staff of the Forças Armadas de Libertação Nacional de Timor-Leste (Estado Maior das FALINTIL) . In 1977 the Ministry of Defense was dissolved and Soares was instead appointed Sector Commander (COMSEC) of the Central-South Sector. and second national commandant of the Brigada de Choque . Soares was killed while fighting the Indonesians.
In 2006 Alves was posthumously awarded the Ordem de Dom Boaventura .
