Hermenegildo Alves

Hermenegildo Augusto Pereira Alves (* 1941 , † 1979 in East Timor ), fighting name Busa , was an East Timorese politician and freedom fighter.

Alves was a member of the central committee of FRETILIN , which on November 28, 1975 proclaimed the independence of East Timor . He was also deputy commandant of the Forças Armadas de Libertação Nacional de Timor-Leste (FALINTIL). In the established government cabinet , Alves was appointed Deputy Deputy Minister for Defense . In 1977 Alves became the Sector Commander (COMSEC) of the Central-East Sector.

In early 1979, Alves was captured by the Indonesian invaders and disappeared shortly afterwards.

In 2006 Alves was posthumously awarded the Ordem de Dom Boaventura . His remains are in the Heroes' Cemetery in Metinaro .
