Guido Mehlkop

Guido Mehlkop (* 1972 in Bonn-Beuel ) is a German social scientist and university lecturer in the field of empirical social research .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1991 and doing community service, he studied sociology , educational sciences and political science at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn from 1993 , which Mehlkop completed in 1999 with the academic degree of Magister Artium for Sociology. He then worked first as a research assistant , then as a research assistant teaching at the Department of Sociology at the University of Bonn. In 2002 he received his doctorate there with the grade Summa Cum Laude as Dr. phil. with a thesis on the subject of economic freedom, income inequality and physical quality of life. An international comparative study . At the end of 2001, Mehlkop moved to the Institute of Sociology at the Technical University of Dresden as a research assistant , where in 2010 he worked on crime as a rational election act. An extension of the model of subjective value expectation and its empirical examination completed his habilitation .

In 2011 he was initially appointed as a substitute for the Professorship of Methods in Empirical Social Research at the University of Erfurt before he was appointed to the chair for quantitative methods of empirical social research at the Political Science Faculty of the University of Erfurt in the 2011/12 winter semester . From 2015 to 2018 he was dean of the political science faculty. In 2017, 2018 and 2019 he received an award for good teaching at the faculty.

Research priorities

Mehlkop deals with the areas of New Political Economy , suicide studies , and military sociology . In the course of his habilitation, he also turned to the economic theory of criminal activity. Mehlkop is currently also engaged in brain doping and the intake of smart pills . As a scientist at the university's political science faculty, the research area of ​​acceptance of the welfare state in Germany also gained in importance.
