Guido von Pogatschnigg

Guido von Pogatschnigg (born July 19, 1867 in Broos , † March 7, 1937 in Timișoara ) was a Romanian-German composer, church musician and music teacher.

The son of a lawyer studied at the Budapest Music Academy with Johann Koessler , Julius Erkel, Franz K. Szabo and Josef Harach. In 1900 he attended the course at the church music school in Regensburg , where he a. a. trained in Gregorian chant . He then worked first as the cathedral music director at the Archbishop's Cathedral of Kalocsa , and later as General Music Director of the Archbishop's Cathedral in Eger . In 1908 he succeeded Julius Major as director of the Timisoara Municipal Music School , which he directed until his retirement.

Von Pogatschnigg composed several hundred works, including an opera, two ballets, two symphonic poems, several overtures, choral works, chamber music and piano works. Among his approximately 200 church music works, there are compositions for the organ such as Praeludium, Pastorale and Rhapsodie (1936), vocal compositions such as Tenebrae factae sunt for four- to seven-part choir, Cantate Domino. Introitus Dominica IV. Post Pascha for four-part choir, a rhapsody for concert organ and choir via Veni creator , a Te Deum for female choir, male choir and mixed choir, Ecce sacerdos magnus for choir, organ and large orchestra, an Ave Maria for voice with organ accompaniment and an Ave Maria for violin, soprano solo and organ.
