Guilherme Karan

Guilherme Pontes Karan (born October 8, 1957 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ; † July 7, 2016 there ) was a Brazilian actor who worked primarily in television and film.

Life

Karan was born as the son of the admiral and former Minister of the Navy, Alfredo Karan (* 1925). He briefly studied architecture, but dropped out and initially worked as an English teacher. Since the late 1970s, he was seen on television in various roles, primarily as a comedian. His actor breakthrough came between 1988 and 1990 with the TV Pirata series . He has acted in around 20 films and around 19 series. He was also active as a sculptor, but of little importance. His career was interrupted by strokes of fate, so that he largely withdrew from the public in 2005.

Raid 2005

Karan was the victim of a serious robbery in 2005. Motoristas shot at a taxi in which he was sitting, murdered the driver and stole the actor's valuables. So he suffered from depression until his death .

Illness and death

In 2012 he was diagnosed with the very rare Machado-Joseph Syndrome . His mother already suffered and died from it; one brother is also ill. Karan therefore lived very secluded in his house in Barra da Tijuca , where he was looked after by two nurses around the clock and had a personal physio trainer. The disease is fatal in the long term and has resulted in physical and psychological decline.

Guilherme Karan died on July 7, 2016 at the age of 58 of his serious illness. He died in the Naval Marcilio Dias Hospital in Rio de Janeiro .
