Guillén de Castro
Guillén de Castro y Bellvís (born November 4, 1569 in Valencia , † July 28, 1631 in Madrid ) was one of the most important playwrights in Spain's so-called "Golden Age" ( Siglo de Oro ).
Guillén de Castro wrote about 35 dramas in total. The best known is his play Las mocedades del Cid (Eng. The youth deeds of the Cid , composed between 1605 and 1615), which is based on the cycle of romances about the Spanish national hero El Cid and the French author Pierre Corneille as the template for his successful play Le Cid (1636) served.
