Guillaume Dupré (* 1576 in Sissonne near Laon ; † June 8, 1643 in Paris ) was a French sculptor , medalist , mint master and gem cutter .

Life

Guillaume Dupré was a student of the sculptor Barthélemy Prieur , whose daughter Madeleine Prieur he married in 1600 or 1601. Dupré was mainly active in the fields of sculpture and foundry. At the court of King Henri IV he was ordinaire sculpteur (1597). In 1604 he and Jean Pillon received the office of contrôleur des poinçons et effigies des Monnaies de France , since 1616 he held this position alone. In 1611 he succeeded Barthélemy Prieur Premier sculpteur du Roi . In 1612 he made a trip to Italy. In 1629 he received the title of Commissaire général de l'Artillerie .

His son and student Abraham Dupré (1604–1647) also worked as a medalist.
