Guillaume de Varax
Guillaume de Varax († April 11, 1466 in Lausanne ) was Bishop of Belley from 1460 to 1462 and then Bishop of Lausanne until his death .
Life
Guillaume was the son of Etienne, lord of Romans and Saint-André-en-Bresse and his wife Claudine de Saint-Amour. Guillaume was a Benedictine in the abbey on the Île Barbe near Lyon. He became prior of Préterive in Savoy in 1440 and abbot of the Piedmontese monastery of Saint-Michel de la Cluse in 1446 . He was transferred to the Diocese of Lausanne in 1460 by Bishop of Belley and in 1462 by Pius II against the opposition of the Duke of Savoy . Guillaume resided in Ouchy Castle , which he had renovated.
