George of Saluzzo

Georg von Saluzzo (* before 1414 ; † November 4th / 5th, 1461 ) was Bishop of Aosta from 1433 to 1440 from 1440 until his death Bishop of Lausanne .

Life

George was the son of Eustachius von Monterosso from the family of the Margraves of Saluzzo . It is first documented in 1414. In 1424 he was archdeacon in Lyon , stayed at the Curia in Rome from 1432 and became Bishop of Aosta in 1433. As a participant in the Council of Basel , he elected Felix V. Georg in 1439 was transferred to Lausanne in 1440 as the successor to Jean de Prangins , who succeeded him in Aosta. He was a confidante of the Dukes of Savoy . During his tenure, two witch hunts took place in his diocese. He was a patron of Felix Hemmerlin when he fell out of favor.
