Jean de Prangins (* before 1385; † before May 7, 1446 ) was Bishop of Lausanne from 1433 to 1440 and Bishop of Aosta from 1440 to 1444 .

Life

Jean de Prangins is first recorded as a chorister in Lausanne in 1385. He is the son of Perrod, an illegitimate son of Jean de Prangins and the Béatrice de Mex. After the death of Guillaume de Challant in 1431 the cathedral chapter elected him bishop of Lausanne. This election was not recognized by Pope Eugene IV , who appointed Louis de La Palud as bishop. Despite its confirmation by the Council of Basel , La Palud could not prevail in the diocese against Jean de Prangins, who was supported by Savoy , and was transferred to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne against his will in 1433 . Felix V.appointed Jean in 1440 as the successor to George of Saluzzo , who succeeded him in Lausanne, Bishop of Aosta . In 1444 he renounced the diocese and was appointed titular archbishop of Nicaea . On August 19, 1445 he wrote his will, in which he established his successor in Aosta, Antoine Desprez , as heir. On May 7th, 1446 he is attested as deceased.
