Louis de La Palud OSB (* between 1370 and 1380; † September 21, 1451 in Rome ) was Bishop of Lausanne from 1431 to 1433 , and from 1441 until his death Bishop of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and cardinal .

biography

Louis came from a Bresse family , he was the son of Aymé de La Palud, Lord of Varambon and Alix de Corgenon. After studying at the Sorbonne , he entered the Benedictine Abbey of Tournus . He became abbot of Ambronay in 1404 and abbot of Tournus in 1413. Louis took part in the councils of Constance (1414-1418), Siena (1423) and Basel (1431-1449). In 1431 he was appointed Bishop of Lausanne. Pope Eugene IV transferred him to Avignon in 1433 . Louis did not accept the transfer and was confirmed by the Basel Council in 1435, whereupon Eugene IV excommunicated him in 1436 . The antipope Felix V made him cardinal in 1440 and bishop of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne in 1441 . In 1449 he joined Pope Nicholas V , who forgave him and in 1449 appointed him cardinal priest of Sant'Anastasia .
