Guillermo Cranwell

Guillermo A. Cranwell (born William A. Cranwell ) (born November 16, 1841 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † July 12, 1909 there ) was an Argentine politician and mayor of the city of Buenos Aires.

Life

Cranwell was the son of Irish immigrants. He studied pharmacy and initially continued his father's pharmacy, who was the first British pharmacist in Buenos Aires.

He became a member of the Hygiene Council of the Province of Buenos Aires and President of the "Concejo Deliberante" during the tenure of Mayor Antonio F. Crespo . When he retired for health reasons, Cranwell took over the office of mayor of Buenos Aires, which he held from August 14, 1888 to May 10, 1889.

During his term of office, the three northern arches of the Cabildos and the old police headquarters in Plaza de Mayo were demolished, as well as other urban development projects such as the extension of Avenida Corrientes to the Cementerio de la Chacarita and the approval of the plans for the new Villa Devoto district .
