Guillermo Ruggia

Guillermo Ruggia (born June 21, 1896 in Mercedes , † June 29, 1971 ) was a Uruguayan politician .

Ruggia successfully completed his training as a dentist in 1927 and settled in Fray Bentos . In 1929 he founded the José Batlle y Ordóñez Club and the Renovación newspaper . Ruggia, who had a doctorate, was active on a political level and was a member of the Partido Colorado , belonged to the "Junta Económico-Administrativa" until 1933 and took an opposition to the then Uruguayan government under Gabriel Terra . In 1942 he decided the election to the Intendente of the Río Negro Department in his favor. Four years later, he was able to convince voters to reappoint him for a second term. He then had Río Negros as representative in the 36th legislative period from February 15, 1951 to April 16, 1952, when he was replaced by Gerardo Gasaniga after his retirement , and in the 37th and 38th legislative period from February 15, 1955 to on June 28, 1962 a titular mandate as a member of the Cámara de Representantes . In 1956 he held the position of fourth vice-president of the chamber. From 1963 to 1967 he was director of the INVE . Ruggia's only daughter is former Senator Ana María Ruggia .
