Gunda Werner (theologian)

Gunda Werner (* 1971 in Bonn ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian and university professor. She heads the Institute for Systematic Theology and Liturgical Studies at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Karl Franzens University in Graz .

Live and act

Gunda Werner studied theology and philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological University of Münster (PTH Münster) from 1992 to 1994 and theology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster from 1994 to 1998 . From 1998 to 2000 she worked in nursing and pastoral care in old people's homes and hospices. From 2001 to 2003 she worked as a consultant for religious education in the Archbishop's Youth Welfare Office in Berlin and from 2003 to 2005 in the World Youth Day Office in Cologne for the pastoral preparation and follow-up of the World Youth Day .

From 1998 to 2005 she did research on her dissertation and was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD with Thomas Pröpper and second reviewer Udo Schmälzle with summa cum laude . In 2010/11, a field study took her on a 420-day bicycle trip along the old Silk Road from Bonn to Japan. She is the first woman to do her habilitation at the dogmatic seminar at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

From April 3, 2018, she was the first female professor to teach dogmatics in Graz. In October 2019 she was appointed director of the Institute for Systematic Theology and Liturgical Studies at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Karl-Franzens University in Graz.
