Gunnar Friel

Gunnar Friel (* 1967 in Cologne ) is a German video and media artist .

Friel studied from 1990 to 1993 at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and from 1994 to 1997 at the Cologne Academy of Media Arts with Valie Export and David Larcher. Friel's focus is on videos and installations .

As a curator, he organized exhibitions in the field of video art, including in 2008 in cooperation with the LCCA Latvian Center for Contemporary Art in Riga . Friel has been teaching at various universities a. a. at the Escuela Superior de Diseño BAU Barcelona and the CENTRO Diseño in Mexico City.

Since 2002 he has been working with the artist Anja Vormann on projects in public, urban and communicative spaces. In 2006 they took part in the Busan Biennale in South Korea.

Friel lives and works in Düsseldorf.
