Anders Gunnar Hökmark (born September 19, 1952 in Ystad ) is a Swedish politician of the current ruling party ( Moderata samlingspartiet ).

Life

Gunnar Hökmark holds a degree in business administration from Lund University . He is a reserve officer in the Swedish armored forces. He has been a member of the European Parliament since 2004 and has received several Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian awards. Hökmark was a member of the Swedish Parliament between 1982 and 2004 and served during that period. a. as economic policy spokesman for the Moderata samlingspartiet and chairman of the constitutional committee.

From 1991 to 2000, Hökmark was general secretary of Moderata samlingspartiet , from 1993 to 2000 chairman of the Jarl Hjalmarsson Foundation , managing director of the Reform Institute 2000–2003, of which he was also the founder. Between 1986 and 1991 he was responsible for ideological development work at the Timbro civic think tank and in this capacity founded City University in Stockholm in 1988 . In February 1990 he took the initiative of the Monday Movement to support the separation of the Baltic States from the Soviet Union . Gunnar Hökmark was from 1979 to 1984 chairman of Moderata Ungdomsförbundet , the party's youth organization, and was elected honorary chairman in 2008. In 2009 he was re-elected to the European Parliament with 90 505 person votes.

In the European Parliament, Hökmark is the head of the delegation of the Swedish moderates and Vice-President of the Group of the European People's Party (EPP). He chairs the EPP's economic policy working group and, as part of his vice-presidency, is responsible for enlargement and neighborhood issues. He has a seat on the committees for economic and monetary policy as well as industry, telecommunications, energy and research. Hökmark is also the chairman of the Croatian delegation in the European Parliament, which is preparing Croatia's accession to the EU.

Gunnar Hökmark has made particular efforts to address the need for market economy reforms in the areas of telecommunications and energy and has also worked to increase competition in public services and financial markets. When the Lisbon Treaty was drawn up, he helped ensure that Sweden had 20 instead of 18 votes.

Hökmark is the chairman of the Association of Swedish Insurance Brokers, a board member of the insurance company Dina Försäkringar and a board member of the Swedish public broadcaster Sveriges Television .

He is one of the 89 people from the European Union against whom Russia imposed an entry ban in May 2015 .
