Guo Jie

Guo Jie ( Chinese  郭 潔  /  郭 洁 , Pinyin Guō Jié; born January 16, 1912 in Dalian , † November 15, 2015 in Xi'an ) was a Chinese athlete .

In 1935 he won at the Chinese National Games in the discus throw . The following year he set a national record with 41.07 m and then represented the Republic of China at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. There he improved in qualifying to 41.13 m, but missed the next round.

After studying agricultural science at Tokyo University, he worked in this field in Beijing and Xi'an before becoming a researcher and trainer at the Institute for Physical Education in Xi'an in the 1950s. He continued his work there after his official retirement in 1987. Before the 2008 Olympics , he carried the Olympic torch through the streets of Xi'an.

Before his death he was the oldest living participant in the 1936 Olympics and a participant in an Olympiad at all. With him, the last Chinese participant in the Olympic Games died in 1936. He was 103 years old.
