Guranda Gwaladze ( Georgian გურანდა ღვალაძე ; born June 23, 1932 in Tbilisi ; † January 24, 2020 ) was a Georgian botanist . She was a co-founder of plant embryology in Georgia .

Life

She studied biology at the State University of Tbilisi (1951–1956). She has been a Doctor of Science ( Dr Habil. ) Since 1973 . Gwaladze worked as a research assistant at the Ketskchoweli Institute of Botany in Tbilisi from 1959 to 1983 and headed the Department of Plant Embryology from 1983 to 2006. Since 1956, she wrote 180 scientific research papers, including 3 monographs on various problems in plant embryology. From 2006 she was a senior researcher at the Institute of Botany.

Gwaladze was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Georgian Society of Botany from 1983 , a member of the Abkhaz Academy of Sciences in Tbilisi (from 1996) and the International Association for Plant Reproduction - IASPRR (from 1990). From 2008 she was a member of the World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology (WASET). She was a co-founder of ESGNS ( Georgian National Section of EuroScience , 1998).

She was the mother of the Georgian historian Levan Uruschadze .
