Cast iron fountain (Wehrheim)
The cast iron fountain in Wehrheim was part of the historic water supply and stands there as a cultural monument under monument protection .
history
Cast iron fountains are typical of the Taunus villages . They were set up as running fountains in the second half of the 19th century and replaced wooden fountains.
According to the inscription on the long side, the Wehrheimer Brunnen dates from 1883. At the beginning of the 1880s, Wehrheim's water supply was rebuilt. According to the municipality's log books, a number of water pipes to the wells were commissioned from 1880 onwards. On September 26, 1880 the Frankfurt company "Fries Söhne" delivered a fountain trough for 192.70 marks. In June 1881 it was decided to order a well trough and two wells. The two fountains were set up at the town hall and at the upper fire pond. In April 1883 the community acquired the fountain "behind the beer house" and another fountain from Heinrich Diehl and Christian Störkel. Wells were now next to the Catholic and Protestant churches, on Usinger Strasse and Töpferstrasse in the street "zur Burg" and in the street "zum Stadttor".
With the establishment of a drinking water network in Wehrheim, the wells lost their importance. They were auctioned off by the community and then used by local farmers as cattle troughs. The existing Wehrheimer Brunnen was auctioned in November 1901 and then stood on the Manck farm. In 1983, Mayor Helmut Michel (CDU) had the fountain renovated and moved from its place at the Untertor to the place next to the community center in front of the fire station. In 2008, the state of the well was discussed in the local advisory board and a planting of flowers was proposed. In 2014/15 there was another renovation for an amount of 5000 €. Now the fountain is set up at the city gate.
