Gustav-Adolf Schreiber (born January 25, 1889 in Bremen , † October 14, 1958 in Bremen) was a German painter and sculptor.

biography

Schreiber was the son of an authorized signatory in a construction company. He graduated from secondary school on Dechenatstrasse and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden from 1907 to 1913 , also as a master student of Eugen Bracht and Gotthardt Kuehl . His study trips took him to Italy and Sweden . During the First World War he served as a soldier and then lived in Bremen and in 1929 in Berlin . He made further study trips to Japan and China and in 1939 to the Arctic .

His work was multi-faceted towards sculpture and painting. He painted landscapes, flower still lifes, figures, portraits and freely designed compositions and graphics. From 1929 he worked as a sculptor. Well-known busts such as those of Wilhelm Kaisen and Manfred Hausmann come from him. He became known through numerous exhibitions. From 1947 to 1956 he was a teacher in the design classes at the Bremen Art School .

Honors

  • In 1954 the Bremen Senate awarded him the title of professor.
  • The Gustav-Adolf-Schreiber-Weg in Bremen- Oberneuland was named after him in 1961.
