Gustav Benischke

Gustav Benischke (born September 30, 1867 in Bärn , Moravia ; † October 31, 1947 in Berlin-Zehlendorf ) was a Moravian physicist. He dealt with electrical phenomena of alternating fields and power engineering.

Benischke studied physics in Vienna from 1887–1891 (Dr. phil.) And was then an assistant at the University of Innsbruck for four years. In Innsbruck he became a member of the striking student union Akademischer Gesangsverein . At the beginning of May 1895 he gave a lecture to the local technical club on "DC, AC and three-phase systems, their advantages and disadvantages". In July 1895 his alternating current measuring device was patented. Due to two inventions that led him to electrical engineering, he became an engineer and after a year (1896) chief engineer and head of the laboratory of the measuring devices and apparatus construction department of AEG Berlin, where numerous inventions and scientific works (71) were created over nine years. The blind consumption meters proposed by him found widespread use among bulk buyers.

At the instigation of Adolf Slaby , he completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Berlin, where he mainly lectured on alternating current technology and became an associate professor in 1913.

Benischke was in correspondence with Arnold Sommerfeld and Berend Wilhelm Feddersen . In 1898 he invented the current transformer . As a PhD senior engineer, he completed his habilitation in 1906 for the subject "AC technology" at the Technical University of Charlottenburg , where he was still active in 1914.
