Berkhan studied mathematics in Munich and Königsberg , where he received his doctorate in 1905 under Wilhelm Franz Meyer ( on the projective treatment of triangular geometry ). Then he was a senior teacher in Hamburg . He wrote an article on recent work on triangular geometry for the Encyclopedia of Mathematical Sciences , which was then completed by Meyer after Berkhan was killed on the front lines in World War I in October 1914 .
