Gustav Berlet

Gustav Berlet (born June 15, 1817 in Gotha ; † December 30, 1908 there ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Life

Born the son of a town clerk , Berlet studied law in Jena and Göttingen after attending the Ernestinum grammar school . During his studies in Jena in 1835 he became a member of the fraternity society on the Burgkeller . After his exams in 1839 he became Ministerial Secretary in Coburg in 1844 . As secretary, he accompanied Duke Ernst II of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1849 during the German-Danish War and then in the same year became a government assessor with a seat and voice in the state government in Gotha, finance department. In 1853 he was elected to the Landtag of the Duchy of Gotha and was also a member of the joint Landtag of the Duchies of Coburg and Gotha. In 1857 he became president of the two state parliaments and remained so until 1900. In 1857 he was advisor , 1858 district court vice director, 1865 district court director and 1879 president of the ducal district court Gotha. In 1867 he took part in the Wartburg Festival. In 1878 he was given the title of President , in 1889 the title of Privy Councilor (Council of Justice) and later the title of Excellence . In 1900 he retired.
