Gustav Bothe (born August 11, 1870 in Hanover ; † March 6, 1948 ibid) was a German lawyer and senior insurance officer.

Life

Gustav Bothe was a son of the lawyer Traugott Bothe. He studied at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and joined the Corps Rhenania Freiburg in 1889 . He was married to Charlotte Bithorn, daughter of the monastery superintendent Wilhelm Bithorn from Merseburg . Bothe was regional councilor in Merseburg and head of the Saxon provincial bank . He was the first head of the Saxony-Thuringia-Anhalt life insurance company. From 1909 onwards, he ran the business of the first deputy general director of the Provincial City Fire Society. On July 1, 1924, he took over the management of the institution at a very critical time; the insurance company had lost most of its assets due to the collapse of the currency. In addition to the modernization through the addition of liability insurance , he operated the motorization and improvement of the fire extinguishing and water supply.

From 1928 to 1933 he was at the head of the association and the association of public fire insurance companies in Germany. He retired on October 1, 1936 and moved to Hanover.

His daughter Margarete Bothe was murdered by the Gestapo on April 12, 1945 along with 51 other political prisoners in Lindenthal near Leipzig . That was not the only stroke of fate that Gustav Bothe's family suffered; their son Gerhard Bothe was also killed in the war.
