Gustav Julius Vennigerholz

Gustav Julius Vennigerholz (born November 19, 1820 in Bücken , † April 17, 1901 in Northeim ) was a German educator and historian .

Life

Vennigerholz, who comes from the county of Hoya , graduated from high school in Verden in 1839 and studied theology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . After various occupations as a teacher, he was appointed rector of the Otterndorf Progymnasium in 1846 . He held this position for ten years before moving to the Progymnasium in Northeim in July 1856 in the same position . Until his retirement in 1887, Vennigerholz worked there as a pedagogue, regional and local historian. He operated the separation of the citizen school and high school. As a historian, he researched and wrote, for example, on the history of the Guelph princes and their lands , criminal justice and enforcement in the early modern period. The main work presents its two-volume description and history of the city of Northeim in Hanover and its immediate surroundings from 1894, which was reprinted for the last time in 1980 - almost 100 years after its first publication.

Vennigerholz was married and the father of four children. Vennigerholzstrasse was named after him in his last place of work, Northeim.
