Life

The trained mechanic Köhler was already a member of the SPD before 1914 . After the First World War he moved to Ulm , where he joined the USPD . In 1920 he moved with the left USPD to the KPD. In the KPD, too, he belonged to the left wing of the party.

In May 1924 he was elected to the Württemberg state parliament, in the same year he became a full-time organ leader of the KPD district of Württemberg. At the beginning of 1927 Köhler was replaced as organ leader, but he remained a full-time instructor for the KPD in the Black Forest and later in Ulm. In May 1928 and April 1932 he was re-elected to the state parliament.

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists, Köhler was arrested on March 13, 1933 and held in various concentration camps for over twelve years: from 1933 to 1935 in the Heuberg and Kuhberg concentration camps , then from July 1935 to September 1939 in the Dachau concentration camp , 1939/40 in the Flossenbürg concentration camp , then again in the Dachau concentration camp, most recently in the Utting subcamp.

Badly bad health, Köhler returned to Württemberg after his liberation. Until he reached the age limit in 1950, he worked as a reporter in the Württemberg Ministry of the Interior. In 1952 Köhler died after a long and serious illness.
