Gustav Otto Müller
Gustav Otto Müller (born September 6, 1827 in Dresden ; † February 21, 1922 there ) was a German military, landscape and genre painter, copyist, art teacher and art historian.
Müller studied from 1842 to 1846 at the Royal Academy in Dresden with Ernst Friedrich August Rietschel , Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld and Julius Hübner . After completing his studies, he initially worked as a freelance artist and from 1865 as a drawing teacher at the royal cadet house in Dresden. From 1870 he was inspector and from 1908 to 1910 curator of the Royal Picture Gallery in Dresden . In addition to his own work, he copied masterpieces from the Dresden collection. He visited Italy in the 1850s .
In 1895 he published the book "Forgotten and Half-forgotten Dresden Artists of the Last Century".
Gustav Otto Müller was friends with Karl May .
