Gustav Pfleger-Moravský
Gustav Pfleger-Moravský (born July 27, 1833 in Karasín , today incorporated into Bystřice nad Pernštejnem , † September 20, 1875 in Prague ) was a Czech poet, dramaturge, translator and novelist.
Life
Gustav Pfleger was born as the 9th child of a chief forester in Karasín. After the father's death, the family went to Prague. After attending the German school and high school in Prague's old town, he studied at the Czech insurance company in Prague. He died of a lung disease that had haunted him since his college years.
Works
He attached great importance to the development of a typical genre of the Czech novel. The heroes of his books mostly reflect the emotional and inner life of the author: disappointed loners who repeatedly try to break out of their situation.
In 1865 Antonín Dvořák composed the song cycle Cyprise ( Cypresses ) based on 18 poems by Gustav Pfleger-Moravský.
