Gustav Schaeling

Gustav Adolf Schaeling (born March 31, 1928 in Rees ; † May 8, 2015 there ) was a German banker and entrepreneur.

Schaeling was born the son of Gustav Schaeling, who was a surgeon at the Reeser Hospital. After graduating from high school in Emmerich am Rhein , he originally wanted to become a journalist. He studied law, medicine, music history and religious studies. After graduating as a lawyer, he worked at Dresdner Bank , for which he set up an office in Chicago from 1972 . In 1976 he became the personal assistant of the board spokesman Jürgen Ponto , which he remained until his assassination in 1977. From 1982 to 1993 he was head of the branches of Dresdner Bank in Wiesbaden . During this time he founded the Wiesbaden Press Club on March 14, 1989, and became its first president until 1992. Together with four other shareholders, Schaeling took over the Sektkellerei Schloss Vaux in Eltville am Rhein from a subsidiary of Dresdner Bank , which he financially renovated. In 1986 the sparkling wine cellar was converted into a stock corporation, which he managed as sole director until 1998. In 1996 he began to renovate Crass Castle in Eltville am Rhein. In 1999 he received the Federal Cross of Merit for his commitment .

Schaeling remained unmarried. In 2005 he moved back to his hometown Rees, where he lived in the Schaeling house , which essentially dates back to 1332 and which his father had restored in the 1950s. He died of a stroke at the age of 87.
