Gustav Stierlin

Wilhelm Gustav Stierlin (born November 9, 1821 in Schaffhausen ; † March 28, 1907 there ) was a Swiss physician and entomologist .

Stierlin studied medicine in Bonn from 1841. As a student he joined the Bonn Wingolf . In 1845 he received his doctorate. He passed the state examination in Schaffhausen. In the Sonderbund War he served as a military doctor. In 1850 he opened a doctor's practice in Schaffhausen.

In addition, he made studies, especially in the Engadin , Valais , Ticino and northern Italy and put on an important beetle collection. Stierlin was from 1862 to 1905 editor of the communications of the Swiss Entomological Society . From 1875 to 1905 he was the first president of the Natural Research Society, Schaffhausen and from 1878 to 1898 director of the Natural History Museum in Schaffhausen.
