Stumbling block for Gustav Thorun in Bottrop

Gustav Thorun (born July 9, 1892 in Marienwalde . † June 19, 1939 in Bottrop ) was a German politician ( KPD ).

Thorun was a locksmith before he became a full-time party secretary of the KPD in Bottrop. There he was also a city councilor from 1924 to 1933 and chairman of the KPD parliamentary group. From 1930 to 1933 he was a member of the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Westphalia . This elected him in January 1930 to the Prussian State Council . After the National Socialists seized power , he resigned from the provincial parliament and state council and took part in the political resistance. After his arrest, he was held in " protective custody " from April 5, 1933 to June 22, 1934 . The reason for detention was preparation for high treason and illegal communist activity. Thorun died of the consequences of imprisonment in June 1939. A stumbling block in Bottrop, Vienkenstrasse 27 reminds of him.
