Gustav Wilhelm Körber (born January 10, 1817 in Hirschberg , Silesia , † July 27, 1885 in Breslau ) was a Prussian , German botanist ( lichenologist ). Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Körb. "

Life

Körber studied botany from 1835 in Breslau and from 1838 in Berlin and received his doctorate in 1839 (De gonidis lichenum). After that he was from 1842 a teacher of natural history at the Elisabeth-Gymnasium in Breslau and from 1862 a private teacher. In 1873 he became professor of botany in Breslau.

He dealt with lichens mainly from Silesia and Central Europe, but also from the rest of Europe, the Mediterranean and Arctic regions. In addition to lichen, he also dealt with mosses, for example.

The lichen genera Koerberia and Koerberiella are named in his honor.

In 1851 he became a member of the Leopoldina .
