Gut Oedingberge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oedingberge estate (berge = secure, bergen; Oden = lonely) is a manor between Ostbevern and Schwege in the municipality of Glandorf on the Oedingberger Bach .

The later manor arose from a former Schultenhof and was first mentioned in 1268 as a farm in Odenberge . In the 15th century the farm was called the Oldenberge . In 1743, Bernhard Friedrich Henseler, a court clerk from Iburg, was appointed to the court, which was owned by the Bishop of Münster. In 1753 the ownership was converted into a long lease. Anna Luise Henseler († 1797), a daughter of Bernhard Friedrich Henseler, brought the farm into her marriage to the rent master of the Harkotten estate, Johann Heinrich Westendorf († 1821), in 1761. At that time the manor house was built. Their daughter Franziska Karonline Westendorf († 1865) brought the court in 1803 into the marriage with the lawyer Ignaz Engelen († 1837). Ignaz Engelen replaced the long-term lease in 1817, so that the farm was transferred to him as free property. He was followed as heir by his son Ferdinand Engelen († 1873), who was married to Selma Warneke. In addition, Ignaz Engelen was the father of Julie Engelen (1805–1898), the wife of the politician Ludwig Windthorst (1812–1891). Ferdinand Engelen was heir to his son Carl Friedrich Engelen (1859–1936). In 1884, he was allowed to include the Oedingberge court in the registers of the Principality of Osnabrück's goods eligible for parliament. In 1885 the estate was officially accepted into the Osnabrück knighthood and has since been known as the Oedingberge manor . In 1924 Karl Engelen, the son of Carl Friedrich Engelen and his wife Maria Linnemann, took over the estate.

The estate had hunting, fishing and trademark rights, as well as a mill shelf. In addition, in 1767 permission was given to build a chapel, which was confirmed by the Pope in 1860.

Windthorst is said to have serenaded his beloved there with a guitar and fell into the Oedingberger Bach.

“It hadn't been so easy to convince Juliane that he of all people, who wasn't exactly like an Adonis, should be the chosen one for her. Only playing the guitar under her window in the evening and the associated fall into the graves are said to have convinced Miss Juliane that Windthorst was the right person. To date, it is not clear whether Windthorst fell into the water intentionally or unintentionally. He was probably a great tactician, maybe also when playing guitar. "

The estate is a permanent stop on the Osnabrück pilgrimage from Osnabrück to Telgte . On January 13, 2011, a Kotten of the property fell victim to the fire.
