Schwege is a district of Glandorf in the Osnabrück district in Lower Saxony .

Surname

After Jelinghaus the word comes from a stockyard or Viehtrift :

"Schwege near Hunteburg and Kr. Iburg: ton Swege ... Swaiga, a large cattle drift, cattle yard,"

location

Schwege is a village on the district road K 341, which leads from Kattenvenne to federal road 51 . The main stream is the Oedingberger Bach , which flows through the Oedingberge estate and on to Ostbevern .

history

On July 1, 1972, the community of Schwege was incorporated into the community of Laer (from September 1, 1975 Bad Laer ) together with Averfehrden , Glandorf, Remsede , Schierloh, Sudendorf and Westendorf . On May 1, 1981, the community of Glandorf was spun off. With the exception of Remsede, all places that were incorporated into Laer at that time, including Schwege, came to the municipality of Glandorf.

Residents

The village has 1081 inhabitants, 29 of which are registered as secondary residences (as of 2012). The village is the southernmost point of the Osnabrück district and protrudes into the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . The neighboring towns of Kattenvenne , Ostbevern , Milte and Sassenberg Füchtorf are located in Westphalia .

Facilities

The Catholic parish church of St. Marien is located in the village. The place also has a kindergarten, a primary school, a volunteer fire brigade and a bakery with a grocery store. The largest outdoor photovoltaic park in Lower Saxony is located in Schwege , operated by Teutoburger Energie Netzwerk eG .

Events

Every year on the third weekend in July, the Schweger Schützenverein organizes its shooting festival.
