Füchtorf is a district of the town of Sassenberg , Warendorf district , in the Münsterland . (North Rhine- Westphalia )

Füchtorf is located in the northern part of the Münsterland. Major cities in the area are (named clockwise, starting in the north):

The Bever , which is created by the confluence of the Salzbach and the Süßbach in Glandorf / Schierloh, flows through Füchtorf in the Harkotten area. From here it forms the border between Füchtorf and Glandorf for a few kilometers, and at the same time between the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony . The highest point of the place is the Heppel. The large Füchtorfer Moor is now a nature reserve.

Local division

In addition to the town center, Füchtorf includes the Rippelbaum, Twillingen, Subbern and Elve farmers , as well as the glory of Harkotten. A total of around 3,500 people live in Füchtorf.

In the center of the village is the Church of St. Mary of the Assumption .

Approx. 1.5 km north of the town center is the Harkotten double castle , seat of the von Korff and von Ketteler families . Today the Kettler Castle serves as the headquarters of the sieger design company .

history

  • 1134: first documented mention as "Viehtorpe" (Bishop Werner of the Münster diocese confirms that the Lette monastery possesses a manse in Füchtorf)
  • 1254: The knight Henricus Korff comes from the county of Mark an der Lippe to Vuchthorpe (Füchtorf) and marries Ludmodis, the heir to the knight who lives there. The family lived in the castle on the current church square.
  • 1288: Foundation of the parish of Füchtorf (= Voogdorpe) (Füchtorf, Rippelbaum, Subbern)

In 2012, Füchtorf was named gold village at the state level in the competition Our village has made the future gold, followed by silver at the federal level in 2013.

economy

The largest company in the district with around 650 employees is the meat and sausage production company Stockmeyer, which belongs to Heristo AG. However, the asparagus cultivation ("Füchtorfer asparagus") is dominant in the soft picture, which has been taking place on a large scale since 1949 on the ideally suited sandy soil of the district. Today, the district with (as of 2015) 12 cultivation companies and around 500 hectares of cultivation area is considered the asparagus village in the Münsterland. There are both small businesses with farm shops and companies in industrialized agriculture .

Events

At the beginning of the asparagus season in April, the Füchtorfer asparagus spring takes place. Füchtorf asparagus, asparagus pie and other asparagus specialties are sold there.

On the last weekend in April, the first run of the German championship in tractor pulling will take place in Füchtorf on the Hörstkamp farm. Over 15,000 spectators come every year. The local “Green Monster Team” has already won national and international titles.

In May, the annual shooting festival is celebrated on the Schützenplatz in Harkotten from Saturday to Monday .

Life in Füchtorf is characterized by the many activities of numerous associations. These clubs include the Catholic rural youth movement, the sports club, the citizens 'rifle club, the Sassenberg volunteer fire brigade (Füchtorf fire brigade), the music club, the musicians' train, the rural women, the women's community and the trade association. A total of 26 associations are organized in the “Füchtorfer associations” working group.
