Good writings
Gute Schriften was a series of booklets by the association Gute Schriften in der Schweiz , whose statutory purpose was to distribute good and inexpensive literature. First, from 1891, separate series of associations in Bern, Basel and Zurich were published, which were merged from 1948 onwards with a new number of issues. The series was published until 1990, from 1977 as the GS series . In 2002 the association Gute Schriften was liquidated.

In the format of the popular booklet novels , this series belonged to the so-called good youth literature . These booklets were published by various organizations, especially in Austria and Switzerland , in order to form a counterpart to the normal cheap so-called junk booklets . This is how the publishing association was founded with the aim of distributing good and inexpensive literature.
Most of the booklets comprised 32 to 104 pages and were based on the popular German booklet novels with around 64 pages. However, some issues also appeared in paperboard . All booklets had a drawn, colored cover picture.
Edition history
The series started in 1948 with the magazine bridesmaid Rägel of Alice Wegmann as no. 1. relied predecessor series of separate teams in Bern, Basel and Zurich on. In 1891, with Four Beautiful Fairy Tales, Issue 1 of Series B was published by the Basel Association for the Dissemination of Good Writings .
In addition to sophisticated literature and classics by Gottfried Keller , Conrad Ferdinand Meyer and Friedrich Glauser , editions such as the volume Spukgeschichten appeared . Here then came short stories of Selma Lagerlof , Edgar Allan Poe , Nikolai Gogol , Theodor Storm and Heinrich von Kleist to reprint. The editions were supplemented by works by, predominantly Swiss, youth writers such as Johanna Spyri or dialect poets such as Simon Gfeller . Particularly in the last third of the publication time of the Good Scriptures , isolated factual texts appeared.
The last volume with No. 563 was published in 1990.
