Information network for German-speaking Switzerland
The Informationsverbund Deutschschweiz (IDS) is a Swiss library network in the legal form of an association based in Zurich . It comprises 400 libraries and four catalogs contain over 17 million titles with over 27 million copies. Most of these libraries are located in German-speaking Switzerland , but there are also libraries from French and Italian-speaking Switzerland .
IDS was founded in 1994 and in 1999 became operational work on, it is supported by the seven representatives of the German Swiss university libraries and the library of the ETH . In four Aleph networks, it covers all university and college libraries in German-speaking Switzerland.
The associations themselves are autonomous, but there is close cooperation with a lean association organization for joint projects. Active cooperation is also maintained with the IDS partners, the other associations in Switzerland, the Swiss National Library and the associations and national libraries in Germany and Austria.
Cooperatively organized tasks:
- Common set of rules cataloging rules IDS (KIDS) - will be replaced at the beginning of 2016 by Resource Description and Access (RDA) with the application rules DA-CH
- Common authority database as mirror database of the common authority file (GND)
- Common user file for exchanging address information
- IDS courier with connection to the Cooperative Storage Library Switzerland
